Went to this nice cozy restaurant for a work related dinner where one of my colleagues knows the restaurant owner well from having been a long time customer...so that may have made a difference in their attention to us (but I got the sense that they are very good regardless), and the food and service was amazing. We ordered many dishes and shared family style...I had the veal parmigiana which was served bone in which was amazing...portions are very large and quality very good. Nice ambiance and friendly service. A definite repeat when I'm in Manhattan...
Great food, service and vibe here! The menu is not your typical Italian restaurant fare. Creative and tasty dishes, as well as good and attentive bar service. Great neighborhood place!
Ate here recently and was so impressed. Everything we tried was so good. Some of the best pasta I've had in NYC. Reasonably priced, and a terrific wine list. This is not just a great neighborhood spot, but one of the better Italian restaurants in NY.
Returned to La Villetta for a celebratory lunch, and our high expectations were exceeded. This was some of the consistently excellent food (and service) we've had in a very long time. Really good bread, gentle EVOO, perfect focaccia. Cavatelli bolognese looked simple but tasted sublime, al dente pasta with a subtle balanced yummy meat sauce. What can I say about the chicken scarpariella? Hearty dish redolent of herbs, peppers, garlic just right, tender chicken, fresh spinach...but the sauce! I couldn't stop mopping it up, so rich, elegant yet rustic. Perhaps the best of its kind I've ever had, and I've had plenty. Waiting for dessert we were blessed with little biscotti chunks, not very sweet and tasting of something marvelous. Then homemade unctuous ricotta cheesecake with startlingly fresh blueberry sauce, and tiramisu the way it ought to be, elegant, slightly reserved yet totally delicious. Service was friendly, precise, professional and excellent. The room is as you'd want it, an Italian tavern. Nearby a table was set for six, at lunch, and elsewhere a lone diner was choosing half portions of his faves. People obviously love this place. We'd not dined at La Villetta for some time and things can change, not always for the better nowadays. If anything La Villetta is even better than it was. Can't wait to return!
Excellent food, extremely friendly service, and a nice, comfy atmosphere. It's conveniently located also. Get the charcuterie platter and you will not be disappointed.
Wonderful place, people, service and food. Terrific Sutton Place location. I love having dinner here - going back many years.
Just enjoyed a delicious dinner here. Great service, very good food. The manager (I think) came to our table, recognizing the couple we ate with there, who live on the block and are regulars there. There's an extensive menu and an extensive list of wines by the glass. Three of us enjoyed a rosé from Provence. They put a pretty little white colander on the table filled with crisps (kind of like thin pizza dough, baked until crispy) that were liberally sprinkled with herbs, probably oregano and basil, plus salt. Almost addictive! And then, a bread basket - I had one piece of the very tasty focaccia. There was a bottle of olive oil on the table. But I didn't feel that I needed it! My husband and I shared the tricolore salad, which in addition to the usual endive, radicchio, and arugula, had pear slivers, walnuts, and small cubes of a rather mild blue cheese. The other couple shared the tropicale salad, arugula, hearts of palm, endive, parmesan. Salads were split in the kitchen, always a lovely touch. My husband had the black ink tagliolini with seafood that he said was very tasty. I liked my penne with eggplant (small, almost-melted, chunks), tomato sauce and shredded mozzarella that melted as soon as I mixed it all up. This was very tasty. One friend had a salad to which she added shrimp added. Her husband had the branzino. Portions are filling but not ridiculously large, enough to satisfy but not bloat. We didn't have dessert because we were coming back to one of our homes to have dessert and time to talk; we left just as a large party was coming in, so that was good timing! It might have become rather noisy! Even so, the server brought a small, plate of delicious anisette cookies to the table, and those, too, were almost addictive! Just a nice touch of sweetness, not overwhelming. Not inexpensive, but good quality, and we've spent that much or more on meals that weren't as good.
